A filter must not restrict the performance of the photographic lens. An important criteria for a perfect B+W filter is a high-quality coating, also known as an antireflection coating. With a B+W filter, such layers are evaporated by means of thin-layer technique, a quite complex coating process.B+W MULTI-RESISTANT COATING MRCBoth sides of B+W MRC coated filters have a multi-layer coating. It consists of 7 + 1 layers, of which 7, also called the MC layers, guarantee high transmittance and maximum elimination of reflections by minimising reflection losses. Instead of the usual 4% reflection losses at the glass surface, the MC layer reduces this value to an average of well below 0.5%. This enables brighter colors and higher contrast to be achieved. The reflection curve of the MC layer shows the more accurate values over the entire visible spectrum.Because the sensor in the camera always reflects back a portion of the incident light, depending on the shooting situation, ghost or double images may be produced. This effect is greatly minimised by using MRC filters with an anti-reflective coating on both sides and, depending on the shooting situation, can be completely eliminated.The last, outermost layer, which is represented by the R = Resistant in the name B+W MRC, serves a different purpose. It must be easy to hold, easy to screw on and off the lens, and fit exactly. The filter glass is perfectly plane and is screwed securely in place. It fits without play and tension. B+W filter mounts are closely toleranced and have very small dimensions. Even with the standard F-Pro mount on wide-angle lenses, photos without vignetting are possible.B+W PROFESSIONAL LINEB+W F-Pro Standard MountB+W F-Pro standard filter mounts have a high mechanical stability despite their small mounting height. They can be used on most of the popular wide-angle lenses without any risk of vignetting. It is not possible to give exact information on focal lengths or the aperture-angle limit, however, as vignetting depends not only on the filter mounting height and aperture angle, but also on the design of the lens barrel. As a guide for use with zero risk of vignetting, 35 mm with DSLR format is a good rule (approx. 63° diagonal aperture angle). In addition, most wide-angle lenses with 28 mm (about 75° aperture angle), and even many with 24 mm (approx. 84° aperture angle), can be combined with the B+W F-Pro standard mount without risk of vignetting. The same aperture angles apply to the lenses of the respective digital cameras.
